Issue 3 of Uppercase Magazine comes out on October 1st!
If you haven’t already done so, I strongly encourage you to purchase an issue or an annual subscription to this fabulous periodical, which is chock-full of brilliant design and infinite inspiration. And the best part is: we the readers often make up the creative content! There are lots of “calls for submission” for everyone to get involved and possibly be published in a future issue.
The following are some Uppercase Magazine-related images from their website to whet your design appetite even further and propel you to subscribe:

A new children’s book from Werner Design Werks, Alphabeasties is an “alphabet book, where the animals are made of type – all types of type. From A to Z” (from Werner Design’s Flickr page).
I am in love with each and every one of the “beasties,” and I can’t wait until there are more in stock so I can buy one for my baby niece and nephew (never to early to set them on the appropriate typographic path)!
Thanks to the always-fabulous Uppercase Gallery for clueing me in to the greatness!

I’m thinking of making this a new weekly feature, but… not sure if I’m totally sold on it yet. I already have Wordshop Wednesday and French Friday. Maybe my Thursdays need to feel more liberated and not so pigeonholed? Then again, I love vintage and retro-y stuff anyway, so I kind of doubt “throwback” material would feel very restricting or hard to come by.
Well, we’ll see how it goes.
But, for today, I feel absolutely compelled to post the following images, which I came across last night thanks to Uppercase Gallery‘s ridiculously awesome Flickr stream. I’ve become a bit of a Flickrholic lately, so be careful: it could happen to you. In any case, when I saw these images of the Fisher Price School Desk, I instantaneously screamed and clapped my hands with major elation. And then a bajillion happy memories (both visual and tactile) began inundating me.
It was awesome.
So, without further ado, I give you: The Fisher Price School Desk:

Last week, in my “asdf jkl;” post, I set forth several images of some amazingly beautiful vintage typewriters that I’d come across online. As you might imagine, I had way too many images of way too many awesome typewriters, but not enough time/space. So… it is my sincere pleasure to offer you the second installment of my Vintage Typewriter Homage (VTH), exclusively for your viewing pleasure:
The following images are courtesy of one of my absolute favorite sites to visit (and they’re cool Canadians!), UppercaseGallery:
And now, a few more insanely classy typewriters from VintageTypewriterShoppe.com:

My holiday time in rural Ohio provided me with some lovely opportunities to rampage around some antique and second hand stores that were chock-full of vintage papers, just begging me to repurpose them (which I will. Oh yes, I will). One particular store, whose seams were near to bursting with antique-y awesomeness, also introduced me to several vintage typewriters. Some were missing keys, some looked more than a little worse for wear, but ALL of them were remarkably stunning.
So, I thought I’d pay some Vintage Typewriter Homage (VTH) here.
Feast your pupils on the following glorious typewriters, which I’ve borrowed from the appropriately named VintageTypewriterShoppe.com:
Did I mention that all of the above are FOR SALE?!? Yeah. You have to be independently wealthy in order to afford them, but it’s still fun to pretend.
The following images are of more “retro”-writers, which I’ve borrowed from the ever-so-lovely UppercaseGallery:
OK, there are a gazillion post-worthy images on Uppercase’s site (and on VintageTypewriterShoppe’s site)… I could be here all night. So, instead, I’ll promise a Round 2 VTH sometime soon.

This week, I am pretty much obsessing over Uppercase Gallery’s “Eclectonotes,” which includes an insane collection of ephemera, vintage, and repurposed pieces. What’s more (as if “Eclectonotes” are not mind-altering in themselves), Uppercase’s online shop contains some of their priceless “Old School”-themed items, vintage reproduction posters, various design books, paper goods, desk accessories — the list of awesomeness goes on and on and on and…
